Jonathan Laronne is currently a visiting scientist at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Halle. Together with his working group, he participates in the DESERVE project (www.deserve-vi.net). His research activities focus on fluvial geomorphology, fluvial processes, hydrology including water quality and their integration. In particular: • Flash flood hydrology in Dead Sea wadis and the Lower Jordan River • Sediment yield from natural and disturbed landscapes • Bedload and suspended sediment dynamics • The use of geophones and hydrophones for bedload monitoring in large and small mountain rivers • Surface velocity of floods by radar. In his talk, Jonathan Laronne is going to exemplify the particular use of portable surface velocity radars (SVR) to flashfloods in deserts such as the Judean Desert and its wadis draining into the Dead Sea.
