Climate change and extratropical storms

Freitag, 11. November 2016, 14:00-0:00
KIT Campus Nord, IMK-ASF
Gebäude 435, Raum 2.05

Intense extratropical cyclones are one of the major weather risks in the mid-latitudes. Any changes in the location or intensity of extratropical cyclones due to climate change will have severe socioeconomic impacts.

This talk will discuss how North Atlantic storms are projected to change for the end of the 21st century in the CMIP5 climate model projections.

There is substantial uncertainty in the CMIP5 climate model projections and part of this uncertainty is associated with projected changes in sea surface temperature, ocean circulation and Arctic sea ice.
