Towards a better understanding of convective processes and their impact - Sonderkolloquium -

Mittwoch, 27. Januar 2016, 16:00-17:00
KIT, Campus Süd, IMK-TRO, Geb. 30.23., Wolfgang-Gaede-Str. 1, 13.OG, Seminarraum
Weather and climate models struggle to adequately represent convective rainfall and its variability, which has serious and detrimental effects on weather forecasts and climate projections. Convective processes occur on a broad range of spatial and scales and are thus difficult to observe and parameterise. This talk will outline research that uses cloud-resolving models and observations to characterise convective processes and their impact on larger-scale phenomenon such as monsoon circulations and the Madden-Julian Oscillation. The talk will also discuss how these methods can be used to understand future changes in convective rainfall and how they can be utilised in impact studies.
