In the recently published 6th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR6), a cross-working group effort has been undertaken to assess risks from climate change. This presentation gives an overview of newly introduced concepts, such as the climatic impact-drivers that are physical climate system conditions (e.g., means, events, extremes) that affect an element of society or ecosystems and have been assessed in Chapter 12 of the IPCC AR6 WGI. Advances in methodology to provide climate information for risk assessment are further presented, such as the consideration of low likelihood, high-impact events and physical storyline approaches. Finally, the contribution of climate change and particularly climate extremes to systemic risks and associated modeling challenges will be highlighted.
