'Understanding' clouds through field and laboratory studies of aerosol chemical composition

Dienstag, 11. November 2014, 15:00-0:00
KIT Campus Nord, IMK
Gebäude 435, Raum 2.05
It is known that aerosol particles can affect the Earth's radiative budget both directly and indirectly through the formation of clouds. Anthropogenic effects on aerosols are estimated to have a negative radiative impact but also have a high uncertainty. The focus of this research is to use studies of aerosol chemical composition, mainly using mass spectrometry, to constrain some of the most uncertain cloud formation mechanisms. Research on cloud droplet formation, coagulation, contact and other ice nucleation mechanisms will be presented.
