Crystallization of water: a molecular perspective

Freitag, 07. Oktober 2016, 10:00-11:00
KIT Campus Nord, IMK
Gebäude 435, Raum 2.05
In this talk I will present our recent work using molecular simulations and theory to understand the mechanisms and molecular factors that control the rate of ice nucleation. In particular, I will focus on the role of surfaces on promoting heterogeneous nucleation of ice, on whether they impact the mechanism of nucleation or only the free energy barrier and the effect of structure and fluctuations on the temperature of ice freezing by organic and biological surfaces.
