Structure and thermodynamics of molecular and metallic clusters

Recent progresses in experimental techniques have opened up new opportunities for the study of free, size-selected and temperature controlled clusters, ranging from angle resolved photoelectron photoelectron spectroscopy to element specific x-ray spectroscopy. I present some typical examples which demonstrate the range of questions to be adressed. The electronic and geometric structure of simple metal clusters will be discussed, as well as the low temperature melting phase transition of pure and doped water clusters.
