Using satellite-derived metrics to constrain climate model cloud parameterisations

In order to evaluate climate model parameterisations at the large scale, satellite datasets are well suited. Process-oriented observable metrics are developed for the evaluation of cloud parameterisations. Specifically, aerosol-cloud interactions, cloud thermodynamic phase, and cloud cover parameterisations are evaluated, and some conclusions for the aerosol indirect radiative forcing and for cloud-climate feedbacks are given.
